APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED NOW FOR VCSO’S DEPUTY SHERIFF SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office wants to attract quality deputy sheriffs – and even has a program designed to pay all costs associated with attending the Basic Law Enforcement Academy at Daytona State College, for eligible candidates.

The Deputy Sheriff Sponsorship Program assists economically challenged residents who want to pursue a law enforcement career with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO). In addition to paying for tuition, books and lab fees, the program also offers selected candidates a full-time job at the Sheriff’s Office as a Special Worker, earning $10 an hour for 40 hours a week while enrolled in the academy. Once candidates receive their law enforcement certification, they will be appointed as reserve deputies at the VCSO, receiving benefits and pay equal to the reserve deputy classification.

“This is your chance – if you want to become a deputy sheriff but think you can’t afford it, we can help,” Sheriff Mike Chitwood said. “We’re looking for quality candidates and this program can make that dream come true.”
