DELAND POLICE TO CONDUCT PEDESTRIAN SAFETY OPERATION

With Stetson University students back in town, the DeLand Police Department wants to make sure they are safe when crossing the road.

On Tuesday, officers will be conducting a pedestrian safety operation in partnership with Stetson University at the intersection of Minnesota and Amelia Avenue. Officers that day will focus on educating pedestrians and drivers that are deemed in violation of traffic laws.

On Sept.13, officers will focus on enforcement – issuing warnings when necessary as well as citations. Failure to yield to a pedestrian can result in a fine and points added to your driver’s license. Pedestrians cited for not walking in a crosswalk may also be fined.

Both operations will be conducted from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
