DELAND MAN ARRESTED AFTER FATAL HIT-AND-RUN CRASH

A DeLand man was arrested Thursday night after the vehicle he was driving struck and killed a motorcyclist.

The wreck occurred about 4:13 p.m. at the intersection of Flightline and Biscayne Boulevard. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcyclist’s identity is not being released at this time as not all of the family has been notified.

Based on the evidence at the scene, police determined the motorcycle had collided with a silver vehicle. Witnesses to the crash said the vehicle had heavy damage to its passenger side and had fled westbound on Old Daytona Road.

After canvassing the area, police found a silver four door Mercedes and found a man, later identified as 40-year-old DeLand resident Douglas Fischer.

Fischer was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious injuries and taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach with no bond allowed.

The investigation remains open and more charges could be filed at a later date pending the investigation.
