DELAND POLICE DEPARTMENT EARNS RE-ACCREDITATION

The DeLand Police Department has received its re-accreditation from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation.

To achieve the status, the department must undergo a rigorous review and ensure the agency is conducting the best standards recognized for law enforcement. The re-accreditation will be valid for three years.

Police Chief Jason D. Umberger said accreditation is a progressive and time-proven way of helping police departments evaluate and improve their overall performance. A team of independent professionals was assigned to verify that all applicable professional standards set forth by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation have been successfully implemented by the DeLand Police Department, he added.

“I am extremely proud of the men and women of the DeLand Police Department for the hard work and dedication they displayed in working toward receiving this recognition,” Umberger said. “As such, residents and visitors to our city can be confident that the DeLand Police Department is committed to excellence in police service.”

The DeLand Police Department was first accredited in 2004 and previously re-accredited in 2008, 2011 and 2014.
