DeLAND POLICE CANINE ENTERED INTO CONTEST FOR KEVLAR VEST

DeLand Police are seeking a bullet-resistant vest for the agency’s K-9, Daro, and it will take the public’s help to get it for him.

Daro, a 4-year-old German Shepherd, has been entered into a contest being run by a Washington-based non-profit organization called Keeping K-9s in Kevlar.

The contest, being administered on Facebook, will be for one week (July 21-28) and the top three dogs who receive the most likes will receive K-9 Storm Patrol SWAT Kevlar vests. If Daro is one of the contest winners, the vest will be designed to pay tribute to Forest, a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office service dog killed in the line of duty in November 2016.

“K-9 officer Daro is an important part of the DeLand Police Department family,” said Police Chief Jason Umberger. “A vote for Daro could potentially save his life and the lives of one of our officers or one of our citizens. So please vote for Daro by liking his picture on Facebook.”

The City of DeLand has shared Daro’s picture on the city’s Facebook page. A link will also be provided on the City of DeLand website.
