DELAND POLICE OFFICER INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT

A DeLand Police officer was involved in a crash that killed a pedestrian and injured another Wednesday night.

At 11:17 p.m. Wednesday, a patrol vehicle driven by Officer Tony Tagle hit two pedestrians near the intersection of North Woodland Boulevard and East South Street. Tagle was driving northbound when the two pedestrians apparently walked into traffic. Both pedestrians were taken to Florida Hospital DeLand where one of them later died.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. Tagle, who was hired in June 2014, has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the investigation by FHP.

Once that investigation is complete, the DeLand Police Department will conduct an internal review.
