DELAND POLICE INVETIGSTING CAR FIRE THAT CRITICALLY INJURED WOMAN

Police are investigating a car fire that critically injured a woman Sunday night.

DeLand firefighters responded shortly after 8:30 p.m. Sunday to the 200 block of West Volusia Avenue after a report of a vehicle fire. When law enforcement arrived on scene, they found a 39-year-old woman with burns to her body and a vehicle fully engulfed. The fire, which also damaged the exterior of a nearby home, was extinguished. The woman was flown to Orlando Regional Medical Center and is listed in critical condition.

At this time, it is believed the fire was started intentionally by someone else. DeLand Police are investigating and the State Fire Marshal's Office has also been contacted to investigate the incident.
