DELAND MAN CHARGED IN STABBING AT LAUNDROMAT 

A 51-year-old man is in custody after stabbing another man in the neck outside a North DeLand laundromat.

Terrance Calkins of DeLand was arrested and is being charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after stabbing Donald Frenier, 50, of DeLand in the neck outside of Boulevard Laundry, 1341 N. Woodland Boulevard. The incident occurred about 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

A preliminary investigation found both Calkins and Frenier were doing laundry when a verbal altercation broke out. It is unknown what sparked the altercation and whether the two men knew each other before the incident.

Calkins was on the scene when police arrived and was taken into custody.

Frenier was taken to Florida Hospital DeLand before being transferred to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach where he is in critical but stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.

ONE SUSPECT IN CUSTODY AFTER STABBING AT NORTH DELAND LAUNDROMAT

One suspect is in custody after a dispute ended in a stabbing at a laundromat in North DeLand.

Police responded around 1:30 p.m. Sunday to Boulevard Laundry, 1341 N. Woodland Boulevard, after a dispute apparently broke out in the parking lot. One male was critically injured during the melee.

The suspect, a male, was on scene when police arrived and was taken into custody. The victim, whose identity is not being released at this time, was taken to an area hospital.

DeLand Police detectives are on scene and the investigation is ongoing.
