PRUINCE DICE HIRED AS CAPTAIN OF SPECIAL OPERATIONS

The DeLand Police Department has hired Prurince Dice to be its next Captain of Special Operations.

Dice, 39, was hired following a national search for the position of Police Captain after longtime police veteran Pete Moon retired. Fifty candidates applied for the position, five of whom were interviewed.

With more than 16 years of law enforcement service, Police Chief Jason Umberger said he believes Dice will easily transition into his role at the department.

“I was impressed with the depth of experience Captain Dice brings to the table,” Police Chief Umberger said. “It was clear that he is the right person for this position.”

Captain Dice began his career in law enforcement with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office in Americus, Georgia in January 2002. He later joined the Albany Police Department, working in several divisions to include the Albany-Dougherty County Drug Unit, Albany Gang Unit, and the Uniform Division.

He had served as Commander of the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit since 2015.

Captain Dice holds a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice – Public Administration, Master of Business Administration—Public Administration and Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Business Administration.

As Captain of the Special Operations division, Dice will oversee Criminal Investigations, Community Policing, hiring, training and recruiting efforts, the School Resource Officer program and D.A.R.E.

“I’m very excited about being in DeLand and being a part of this community,” Dice said. “I’m looking forward to leading the men and women under my command and looking for ways that our department can better serve our community.”
