POLICE INVESTIGATING BODY FOUND IN TRUCK

On May 17, 2017 at approximately 4:18 pm, the Port Orange Police Department responded to a heavily wooded area on Town West Blvd. near Tomoka Farms Rd, for a reported vehicle located which possibly contained a body. The vehicle was identified as a white 2012 Ford F-150 registered to Port Orange resident Ian K. Hiles, 41 years of age, who was reported as a Missing Person on April 02, 2017. A body was found in the passenger area of the truck, but was unable to be positively identified at the scene due to advanced decomposition.  The Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the remains, and will attempt to identify them via comparison to Mr. Hiles’ dental records obtained by POPD Detectives.  Mr. Hiles’ next of kin was contacted and made aware of this development in the case.  The Port Orange Police Department Detective Division is actively working this investigation, and an update will be released when positive identification of the body is made by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Detective Thomas Yovanovich at 386-506-5897.
