MISSING MAN FOUND DEAD

Shortly after 12:00 a.m. on 09/10/17, the Port Orange Police Department located an unattended vehicle at the boat ramp in the 90 block of Dunlawton Ave. A wallet and set of keys belonging to the registered owner, Richard Dorfner (10/7/1932), were located inside the vehicle. Upon contacting the family and notifying them of the circumstances, Dorfner was entered by POPD as a missing person. 

At approximately 7:00 a.m. on 09/10/17, POPD responded to the report of a body found floating in the river. The deceased was later identified as Dorfner and at this time there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.  Dorfner was an avid fisherman and it is believed at this time that he went to see what the river conditions were and accidentally fell into the water where he ultimately succumbed to the inclement conditions.  

The case is currently an open investigation and no further information is being released at this time.
