SERGEANT HONORED FOR LIFESAVING HEROICS

At the December 12, 2017 Port Orange City Council meeting, Sergeant Steven Nagy was presented with an Award for Achievement for his actions in the line of duty. A brief synopsis of the events which unfolded is below.

On August 29, 2017, Sergeant Steven Nagy responded to the call of a suicidal male. The caller advised her husband stated that he wanted to commit suicide by hanging himself.  Upon arrival, the male subject was observed hanging from a yellow rope that was tied to the staircase in their home. Sergeant Nagy immediately cut the subject down, removed the rope from around his neck and straightened his body on the floor to allow him to breath. The male regained consciousness and began to breathe on his own. Port Orange Fire Rescue and EVAC arrived and transported the subject to Halifax Hospital. Sergeant Steven Nagy’s attention to detail and quick actions were instrumental in getting the victim the medical attention he needed and saving his life. The Port Orange Police Department takes great pride in presenting Sergeant Steven Nagy with this Award of Achievement.
