UPDATE - February 14, 2017

On January 31, 2018, the Port Orange Police Department investigated the drowning death of an adult male at the Memorial Park, located at 3801 Jackson St. The deceased is identified in the picture as William Rader, 64 years old, who is transient and has no known address. The investigation is ongoing, but his death does not appear to be suspicious or criminal in nature. Attempts to locate his next of kin have been unsuccessful as of this writing. Anyone who is familiar with William Rader is asked to contact Detective Thomas Yovanovich at 386-506-5897.

POLICE INVESTIGATING DROWNING AT MEMORIAL PARK ON JACKSON STREET

On January 31, 2018 at approximately 3:56 pm, Port Orange Police responded to the Memorial Park, located at 3801 Jackson St., for a drowning. A citizen called 9-1-1 to report seeing a body floating in the lake at the park. POPD Patrol Officers, Port Orange Fire Rescue, and EVAC personnel responded to the scene, pulled an unresponsive adult male from the water and began treatment. POFR and EVAC personnel regained a pulse on the male, who was then transported to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach for further treatment. The male was later pronounced deceased at the HMC ER.

Port Orange Detectives responded to the scene and are actively working this investigation. The male has been identified, but his name is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin. Anyone who may have seen the male entering the lake is asked to contact Detective Thomas Yovanovich at 386-506-5897.
