Initial suspicion of a domestic incident that resulted in the vehicle driving into the lake was being investigated by the Port Orange Police Department. The sole occupants of the vehicle were identified as Nicholas and Catherine Curry of Port Orange. The couple allegedly went to the area of the1200 block of Reed Canal as it was a previous location for romantic encounters. After conducting several interviews, it has been determined there is no evidence to support any criminal charges regarding in this matter. The vehicle was removed from the lake and will be returned to the owner, Nicholas Curry.

SINGLE CAR ACCIDENT LANDS VEHICLE IN A LAKE 

On May 23rd, 2018 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Port Orange Police Officers responded to the area of 1270 Reed Canal Rd. in reference to a vehicle that had driven into a nearby lake. Two occupants escaped the vehicle and no injuries were sustained by either occupant. An adult female passenger was contacted by the police and interviewed at her residence. It was advised she and her husband were the only occupants of the vehicle. Detectives have yet to interview the husband.

At this time, there is nothing to disprove the information provided regarding the number of occupants in the vehicle however, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team will assist in searching the area further and arrangements will be made to remove the vehicle from the lake.

No further information or video related to the incident can be released pending possible criminal charges.
