UPDATE: CRASH VICTIM IDENTIFIED

The Sheriff"s Office has identified a pedestrian who was struck and killed early today as Shawn A. Marcellus, 27, of Deltona.

Marcellus was crossing Howland Boulevard from west to east mid-block instead of at the intersection of Howland and Elkcam boulevards.

Investigators say Yoto Ainsworth, 34, of Chuluota, in Seminole County, was driving north on Howland when Marcellus stepped in front of her vehicle.

There were no signs of impairment, nor was speed a factor so the driver won't likely be charged. However, the sheriff's traffic homicide unit continues to investigate.

VCSO ON SCENE OF TRAFFIC FATALITY INVOLVING PICKUP VS. PEDESTRIAN

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating a crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian early today at Howland and Elkcam boulevards in Deltona.

Our preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a white Dodge pickup was driving north on Howland Boulevard around 5:30 a.m. when the pedestrian, an adult male,  stepped out in front of the truck from a non-crosswalk area. The victim came from an alley north of Howland and Elkcam.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identification is being withheld pending notification of his next-of-kin.

The driver stopped and reported the accident, which caused Howland Boulevard to be closed but has since reopened.  The Sheriff’s Office is conducting a standard traffic homicide investigation. More information will be released when it becomes available.
