Hunter Indicted On Manslaughter Charge In 2016 Shooting Incident Near Oak Hill

HUNTER INDICTED ON MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE, HUNTING VIOLATION IN 2016 SHOOTING INCIDENT NEAR OAK HILL

A hunter who shot and killed his friend last year in an incident in a wooded area near Oak Hill turned himself in to the Volusia County Branch Jail today, a day after a grand jury indicted him on one count of manslaughter with a firearm and one count of violation of game rules/regulations.

Leeshawn Sutton, 58 (DOB 2/5/1959), remains in custody at the jail this evening on a $50,000 bond on the manslaughter charge and $100 bond for the hunting violation.

The Jan. 20, 2016, shooting killed 65-year-old Bruce Best in an area west of Interstate 95 and north of Maytown Road.

• Shooter:          Leeshawn Sutton, age 56
• Deceased:       Bruce Best, age 65

The Sheriff’s Office’s Major Case Unit is continuing to investigate the death. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is assisting.

MAN KILLED IN APPARENT HUNTING ACCIDENT IN OAK HILL

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent hunting accident Wednesday afternoon that claimed the life of a man in a wooded area of Oak Hill.
