MINOR INJURIES TO 16-YEAR-OLD PEDESTRIAN WHO RAN INTO PATH OF VCSO PATROL UNIT

A Volusia County Sheriff’s Office patrol unit was involved in a crash with a pedestrian early Monday in DeLand, causing minor injuries to the 16-year-old girl who crossed into the road too abruptly for the deputy to avoid her.

The incident happened around 5:55 a.m. at West New York Avenue and Stetson Park Drive, where the pedestrian ran into the road without noticing the oncoming vehicle. She was transported to Florida Hospital DeLand as a precaution and for treatment of her minor injuries. The deputy wasn’t injured.

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash, and further information will be available in a standard FHP news release that is expected later today.
