HURRICANE IRMA INFORMATION AND UPDATES

A countywide nighttime curfew remains in effect from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. But we are not out to hassle anyone who's out for legitimate reasons. As the sheriff put it: "If they're out there and they're up to nefarious deeds, they're getting arrested... If you come in here and you act like a knucklehead, then we have a place for you." Enhanced penalties are in effect for crimes committed after curfew.

Also: There is flooding along the St. Johns River, and it's expected to get worse over the next four days. Boaters, if you're out there, take it slow and don't flood the properties of those along the river. Watch out for submerged docks and debris.

There have been plenty of traffic lights out as a result of this storm. If you encounter an intersection with no working light, treat it like a 4-way stop. The vehicle that stops first, goes first. In the event of a tie, the vehicle on the right goes first. Again, take it slow and be kind to one another -- we're all tired and anxious to get back to normal.

Thank you all for your patience -- for more important info on things like power outages, shelters, closures and more, make sure you follow and check in on the Volusia County Emergency Management Facebook page and website (see below).
