DEPUTY CHARGED IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INCIDENT

A Volusia County sheriff’s deputy was arrested Saturday evening after a domestic incident.

Sgt. Robert Rahn, 50, was charged with one count of domestic battery by strangulation and one count of child abuse without great harm after the incident at his home in the DeLand area.

Deputies responded there around 6:10 p.m. Saturday after an altercation was reported between Rahn and the 16-year-old victim. The victim told deputies a verbal argument escalated when Rahn pushed him down onto a couch, punched him in the face and put him in a headlock. The victim said Rahn put his hand over his mouth and nose, and he lost consciousness.

Rahn was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail without incident Saturday evening, and has been temporarily placed on paid administrative leave as a result of his arrest.
