DELTONA WOMAN, 30, CHARGED WITH STEALING, PAWNING DISABLED DAD’S 47 FIREARMS

A Deltona woman has been arrested and charged with grand theft after a family member discovered her bedridden father’s collection of 47 guns and a collector’s knives set were missing.

Crystal Gorman, 30, was arrested Thursday and charged with one count of grand theft, 19 counts of dealing in stolen property and 19 counts of Violation of the Pawn Broker’s Act.

Sheriff’s detectives were alerted about the missing weapons on Oct. 13, 2017, by the sister of Robert Carter, who owns the guns and knives. Lorri Lynn, of Eustis, serves as Carter’s power of attorney.  Carter, 58, had suffered a stroke a year ago and was bedridden. His daughter, Gorman, moved into his Osteen home to take care of him.

Carter is living in a rehabilitation center where he moved in September. After Hurricane Irma struck Central Florida, Carter was concerned about his home and his gun collection – a tree had fallen on his house during the storm – so he asked a friend and his sister to check on the house. That’s when he learned the 47 firearms and knife set were missing.  Investigators say Gorman began pawning firearms since April 2017 to two local pawn shops. They were able to trace the weapons because Carter kept a list of his prized pieces and serial numbers. Most of the firearms pawned were sold. Carter was shown pictures of the remaining firearms that had not been sold and he identified them as his.

Gorman was arrested Thursday and transported to the Volusia County Jail where she remains in custody.
