SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES SEARCHING FOR MISSING DELAND MAN, 79

Volusia County sheriff’s deputies are looking for a 79-year-old DeLand man who was reported missing Wednesday afternoon and he may be trying to leave the country.

Karl Ewald was reported missing about 5 p.m. after he left from an address in the 1300 block of East Wisconsin Avenue. He spoke with his wife about 3 p.m. Wednesday and said he planned to take a nap. When she returned from shopping at 5 p.m., he had packed a bag and left in a silver 2003 Toyota Highlander with Florida license tag K849IV.

Ewald has been declared missing under the state Silver Alert system. He is described as 5’8’’ tall, weighing 200 pounds. He has gray hair and blue eyes.

He was last seen wearing a red plaid shirt and blue jeans. He has reportedly indicated he wants to leave the country. Daytona Beach, Sanford and Orlando airports have been alerted in case Ewald shows up.

Anyone who sees Ewald or has information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 911.
