VCSO INVESTIGATING DELAND HOMICIDE

Sheriff's deputies are investigating the shooting death of a 26-year-old black male after he was found collapsed near 914 S. Florida Ave. in DeLand around 8:35 tonight.

Witnesses heard a number of gunshots fired but it was unclear where they came from. The victim was being airlifted by helicopter to a trauma hospital but was diverted to Florida Hospital DeLand where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood is at the scene.

Witnesses said the victim and another male were heard arguing on South Florida Avenue tonight. This is an active homicide investigation.
