2 INJURED IN PLANE CRASH

Two people were injured in a plane crash Tuesday morning in the New Smyrna Beach/Edgewater area.

Rescuers responded to a call about the crash shortly after 10 a.m. The plane, a single-engine Piper aircraft, crashed into a residence at 1049 Roberts Lane, New Smyrna Beach. The crash site was near Massey Ranch Airpark, where it appeared the plane had approached for a landing before clipping some trees and crashing.

Preliminary information about the crash is as follows: The occupants of the plane were Amrit Ramnarine, 23 (DOB 2/8/1995) and his sister Asha Ramnarine, 21 (DOB 2/6/1997). Asha sustained critical injuries and was transported via Air One helicopter to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach. Amrit sustained serious injuries and was transported via ambulance to the same hospital. Due to their injuries and need for medical treatment, they were not immediately able to provide or confirm any information about the incident.

There were no injuries to anyone in the residence at the crash site.

The Federal Aviation Administration was responding to the scene today for further investigation of the crash.
