Update: This afternoon, Volusia County sheriff's detectives located the body of Carlos Manzanares in a field near the intersection of South Grand Avenue and West Euclid Avenue, DeLand. He appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound to the upper torso. 

Reinaldo Jesus Martinez, 69 (DOB 11/17/1949) has been charged with second-degree murder in Manzanares' death.

Detectives determined Martinez shot Manzanares early Sunday following an argument at 611 Margaret St., DeLand. Blood evidence was discovered on Martinez's clothes and his van.

DELAND-AREA SHOOTING UNDER INVESTIGATION; VICTIM, PERSON OF INTEREST MISSING

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early-morning shooting incident in the DeLand area. The victim and a person of interest in the investigation are missing.

Deputies responded around 3:40 a.m. Sunday to 611 Margaret Street, DeLand, after a report of a shooting that resulted from a verbal altercation. The shooting victim, identified as 44-year-old Carlos Manzanares of DeLand, was no longer there when deputies arrived.

Detectives have identified and interviewed one person of interest in the shooting, 69-year-old Reinaldo Martinez (DOB 11/17/1949) but are continuing to investigate and seek additional information.

Another person of interest in the investigation is 45-year-old Reinaldo Martinez Jr. (DOB 10/17/1973), who has not been located or interviewed at this time. It’s believed Martinez Jr. might be in the New Smyrna Beach area.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Manzanares or Martinez Jr. is asked to call 911.
