HELP SAVE LIVES: TURN IN UNWANTED PRESCRIPTION DRUGS THIS SATURDAY
VCSO offers collection sites at our district headquarters

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is joining law enforcement agencies nationwide in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s 16th annual National Drug Takeback Day this Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It’s the chance for everyone to help prevent accidental poisoning, overdose and abuse by properly disposing of any unwanted, unused or expired prescription medications from your home. Unfortunately, such unused drugs often find their way into the wrong hands – children, teenagers, drug abusers – resulting in dangerous and sometimes tragic endings.

According to a 2017 national survey on drug use and health, more than 6 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. A majority of those abused medications came from family or friends, often from home medicine cabinets.

Unused prescription drugs thrown in the trash can easily be retrieved, abused or illegally sold. Also, flushing unused drugs contaminates our water supply, so properly disposing of them at a drug takeback location can save lives and protect our environment.

Volusia County residents may drop off prescription medications anonymously at our district headquarters listed. Uniformed deputies will be on hand; afterward they’ll transport the medications to the VCSO evidence facility:

  • District 2 office, 1706 S. Woodland Blvd., DeLand;
  • District 3 North office, 1435 U.S. 1, Suite D-3, Ormond Beach;
  • District 3 South office, 101 E. Canal St., New Smyrna Beach;
  • District 4 office, 1691 Providence Blvd., Deltona;
  • District 6 office, 79 S. Charles R. Beall Blvd., DeBary
