39 Stores Sell Alcohol Or Tobacco To Customer Under 21 During Undercover Operation

39 STORES SELL ALCOHOL OR TOBACCO TO CUSTOMER UNDER 21 DURING UNDERCOVER OPERATION

An undercover buyer under the age of 21 was able to purchase alcohol or tobacco 39 times during a month-long operation across Volusia County that concluded this week.

The operation, a joint effort between the East and West Volusia Narcotics Task Forces and Deltona Narcotics Enforcement Team, sent an undercover, under-21 buyer into 64 stores around the county.

The 39 successful purchases happened at:

These violations of Florida Statutes 562.11(1)(a) or 569.101 resulted in 39 notices to appear issued to each store clerk, manager or owner who sold to the undercover buyer. (On Oct. 1, 2021, Florida implemented a new statewide law raising the minimum age to purchase tobacco and nicotine products from 18 to 21 years of age.)

The East Volusia Narcotics Task Force is comprised of detectives from the Edgewater Police Department, New Smyrna Beach Police Department, Port Orange Police Department, South Daytona Police Department and VSO. The West Volusia Narcotics Task Force has detectives from the DeLand Police Department and VSO. The Deltona Narcotics Enforcement Team is solely comprised of detectives from the Sheriff’s Office.
