Sad news to report: Yesterday, deputies responded to a home in City of Deltona, Florida after a woman was found unresponsive in a lake behind her home.

Deputies and Deltona Fire Rescue personnel were dispatched to 479 Fort Smith Blvd. around 5:25 p.m. Sunday, after the victim's husband reported he saw her floating face down in the water and ran to pull her out.

Deltona Fire Rescue began life-saving measures immediately upon arrival, but the victim was pronounced deceased at 5:49 p.m.

The initial investigation found that the victim, identified as 74-year-old Bethania Germosen, frequently fed ducks and turtles in the lake behind her home. It was also reported that she had some recent and long-term medical issues and could not swim.

There were no suspicious circumstances observed, and the Medical Examiner's Office responded to take possession of Mrs. Germosen for an autopsy. The Sheriff's Office sends its sincere condolences to all of her family and friends for their loss.
