Date Added: April 04, 2025 11:14 am

The former co-owner of an Orange City karate studio has been arrested on charges of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a 17-year-old student at the studio.

Jason Mummaw, 55, was arrested Thursday afternoon at his Deltona home and booked at the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bond.

The crimes began in 2022 at the studio and at Mummaw’s residence. The incidents were initially reported to police in DeLand and Orange City in December 2023. VSO was later notified of the case and launched an investigation due to the allegation of an incident in VSO’s jurisdiction in Deltona.

VSO obtained an arrest warrant on Thursday, and members of the Deltona Crime Suppression Team went to Mummaw’s home to take him into custody without incident.

Mummaw is charged by both VSO and Orange City PD. VSO’s charge is unlawful sexual activity with a minor and OCPD’s charge is sexual battery of a minor by a person in a position of authority.

Mummaw is no longer a co-owner of the studio, All-American Karate in Orange City. He taught there from 2016 to 2024. No additional victims have been identified at this time. However, anyone who has information about any other potential cases is asked to contact Det. Bartzer at MBartzer@volusiasheriff.gov or call VSO Investigative Services at 386-254-1537.
