Thanks to great witnesses, clear video, and the best technology, a hit-and-run driver who struck a 16-year-old crossing a street in Deltona yesterday was identified and arrested by the end of the night.
A little before 4 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Gage Avenue and Noah Street, a black Chevrolet Silverado struck a student riding his scooter home from school.
The young man hit the ground and sustained a serious laceration to the back of his head, but thankfully he came away from the crash alert and conscious.
A witness reported the driver of the Silverado got out, checked on the victim, then went back to her truck to cover her license plate with paper and tape. The witness was still able to get the first character of the tag. A neighborhood Ring camera also captured the truck leaving the scene.
All that info allowed deputies and analysts at the Volusia County Crime Center to quickly locate a suspect vehicle captured on a nearby License Plate Reader camera within minutes.
The victim and witness were also able to describe the driver in detail. She was located in Flagler County and taken into custody with the help of FHP and the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.
Sarah Wright (9/23/1987), 37, Palm Coast, is charged with leaving the scene of a crash with injuries and driving with a suspended license. She's in the Flagler County Jail with a bond of $3,500.
The juvenile victim required staples for the laceration and further treatment for an arm injury. Thankful he is OK and on his way to a full recovery!
