Date Added: July 06, 2024 11:38 am

An 18-year-old from Ormond Beach has been arrested on several charges including attempted murder after he fired several shots at a vehicle full of people on July 4.

Deputies responded late Thursday after the victims reported someone fired at them several times in front of 1062 George Anderson St., Ormond Beach.

The bullet holes in the vehicle indicated the occupants narrowly missed being struck at head or chest level.

Detectives identified Dylan Preis (DOB 11/9/2005), who had a recent falling out with the driver, as the shooter. After initially denying involvement, Preis eventually confessed and admitted to using his grandmother's 9mm handgun to commit the shooting. Detectives recovered the gun, ammunition and shell casings at the scene.

Preis was charged with 1 count of attempted first-degree murder, 3 counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, 4 counts of firing into a vehicle, and 1 count of criminal mischief, as well as violation of his juvenile probation. He was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he is being held with no bond as of this post.
