Student Charged In False Report Of Gun On NSB High School Campus

Date Added: May 10, 2024 8:49 am

The student responsible for the multi-agency response to Tuesday's report of a gun on campus at New Smyrna Beach High School has been charged with disrupting school functions by making a false report.

After a thorough investigation, VSO detectives determined there was no gun on campus, and the 16-year-old student who called 911 claiming she saw one in a live Instagram video was lying in an attempt to get other students in trouble.

The false report brought 50+ law enforcement officers from multiple agencies on campus, and caused a major disruption of school activities.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood again reminded students and parents that the Sheriff's Office will continue to pursue applicable criminal charges in cases of false reports or hoax threats to school campuses.
